Dance Explosion School of Performing Arts

Every year, the two weekends following the recital, our studio hosts auditions for the upcoming dance season's competition team. Depending on your child's age, the requirements and class style varies on how the audition takes place for your child.

 

The dancers should arrive ten to fifteen minutes prior to their audition time in order to properly warm up for class. The dance studio has two rooms. Room 2 is the room where auditions take place and dancers are more than welcome to use Room 1 for warm ups and stretching.  A staff member will come get the dancers when it is time for them to enter the audition room

 

Within room 2, there will be a judges table with a panel of judges. The judges include staff members and may possibly have summer guest artists as well. The judges will have score sheets that will be judging children on technique, flexibility, ability to pick up corrections and choreography, adaption to styles, as well as additional comments that staff feels they need to share.

 

We ask that children come into the audition ready to dance and stand out! The dancers will be given numbers, but should wear colors or dancewear that has them remembered by staff. Examples include, a colorful bow in their hair, Colorful sports bra and solid color booty shorts, or dancewear such as Lexi-Luu or California Kisses. Judges want dancers to be wearing something that when it comes time to go over audition scoring sheets that they can recall a child's outfit and tie it with the number and dancer. The child's hair should be tight, secured and pulled out of their face in either a high/low ponytail or a bun.

 

Each audition class structure varies. For the jazz audition, Ms. Melanie will be conducting it. The dancers will perform across the floor combonations as well as learn a small combonation in the center and then performing it in small groups. Dancers may be asked to perform additional skills such as specific leaps, turns or flexibility skills if they wern't featured in the audition combonation.

 

For the tap audition, Ms. Melanie will be conducting it.  The dancers will perform various steps, and learn a small combonation. The combo will be performed in small groups.

 

For the lyrical audition, Miss Jillian will be conducting it. The dancers will learn a small combonation and then perform it in smaller groups. The dancers will also be asked to have a moment to do indivdual improv as well as perform skills that may or may not had been featured in the combonation.

 

If your child is not interested in auditioning for a specific style of dance, they do not have to attend that audition.

 

After the two week span of auditions, individual emails will be distributed with your child's team(s) that they have been placed on. Team schedule begin the following week and your child's schedule will be included in the email.

 

If your child can not attend the scheduled auditions, but would like to still be considered for team(s), they may schedule a private audition during that two week time period.
